At the start of the 2009 football season, the Bulldogs of Mississippi State University ran out onto the field with their video display showing content provided by Keyframe. Logo treatments, crowd prompts, headshots and replay bumpers graced the face of their display during every home game, not to mention a specialized open piece for the “Physics Professor” segment. This open is a short intro to a segment which describes the physics of a select play of the game.
Mississippi State’s in-state rival, Ole Miss, was already a customer of Keyframe, so naturally they wanted to differentiate themselves. “We started working in the opposite direction from their rival, leading us towards a grunge style that matched their own promotional literature and billboards,” said Scott Larsen, Keyframe Art Director on the project.
The endzone display at Mississippi State has a main video board and a tall narrow display on each side with a ribbon board running the length of the bottom. The uniqueness of the display led to interesting combinations of display usage – just the main display, main display and side displays, side displays and lower ribbon, etc. – which added to the challenge of creating content.
“We had several different artists working on the project under a pretty tight deadline,” commented Larsen. “In the end, everybody’s work was unique while still fitting into the style we were aiming for and the client was happy.”
