Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals enlisted Keyframe to produce custom animations and creative content for their new Daktronics HD-16 LED display, the world’s Largest HD LED video display, and their ProFence® display at Kauffman Stadium.

Tony Biggar, Lead Digital Artist for Keyframe, was the point man in creating a 3D model of Sluggerrr, the Royals feline mascot, for use in several of the animations.

“We worked closely with the Royals to bring together elements of the live mascot that runs around at the games and the 2D ‘logo’ version of the mascot,” said Biggar. “The main challenge was taking the 2D character model sheet provided by the Royals and using it as a guide to create the right visual angles that make up a 3D character. The result is fun-looking 3D mascot that can be inserted into animations.

Creating content for this display was very unique compared to past projects. All of the content created for the main video display was created in a widescreen (16:9) HD pixel ratio, but because the Royals display has a vertical format, our artists had to look at things differently when creating the content.

“This was a very fun and challenging project to be a part of,” said Trish Kindel, Keyframe Account Manager. “The fact that this is the world’s largest HD display added to the excitement of it all. I was very pleased with all the content produced and received very good feedback from the Royals as well. Our team did a great job and I thank them for all of their hard work.”
